The week-long Sziget Festival staged its closing events on Sunday.It attracted approximately 380 000 visitors in its 20th jubilee year, with 50 percent of these coming from outside Hungary. In addition to the numerous music events, the festival hosted a number of government organisations at its ‘Civil Village’.

The Interior Ministry has removed National Bureau of Investigation (NNI) director Zoltan Csizner from his post, effective immediately and without explanation, at the recommendation of National Police chief Jozsef Hatala. Interior Minister Sandor Pinter appointed Gabor Bucsek as the new NNI director, effective August 9.
