Magyar Telekom (MTel), the Hungarian subsidiary of German telco giant Deutsche Telekom, has won a HUF 12.2 billion European Union grant to support investments in its fixed broadband network, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Standard and Poor’s raised its longand short-term foreign and local currency sovereign credit ratings on Hungary to ‘BBB-/A-3’ from ‘BB+/B’, putting the country back in investment grade. S&P also raised its rating for the National Bank of Hungary (NBH) to ‘BBB-’ from ‘BB+’. The outlook on both Hungary and the NBH is stable.

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg on Tuesday rejected an appeal in a case in which the first instance court admonished Hungary because in 2011 the authorities failed to thoroughly investigate presumably racist threats. The verdict became final yesterday.
