In reaction to the heat wave, the national meteorological service has extended its heat warning issued earlier to several counties and raised its level to second degree. Maximum temperatures on Friday afternoon were expected to be at 30 to 33 °C , which will fall no lower than 19-24 °C late in the evening.

Hungarians are less satisfied with their quality of life than the EU average, according to a survey by Eurostat, the EU statistics office. Those interviewed were asked to rank various aspects of their life on a scale of one to ten. Overall, the EU average was 7.1, while that for Hungary was 6.2, level with Greece, Cyprus and Portugal.

According to Political Capital director Péter Krekó, xenophobia has reached a record level in Hungary. He attributes this to fear of the unknown and political incitement as well.
