The EPC said the tax would “continue to erode” press freedoms in Hungary as well as hobbling the country’s media sector and eradicating independent news outlets.

Fidesz lawmakers unanimously support the bill on the ad tax in its current form and are unlikely to insist on any big changes before the vote in parliament, Antal Rogán, the party’s parliamentary group leader, told the press, adding that the party leadership would discuss modification proposals but he saw no point in making “major changes” to the bill.
