The United States reacted positively to Hungary’s position on the areas of change for which it has drawn most criticism, said Deputy State Secretary for International Communications Ferenc Kumin on Friday, summing up the discussions he had in New York and Washington during his week-long visit to the United States.

Support for Fidesz was 19% among eligible voters and 36% among decided party voters, according to a Tárki poll taken in October. Support for the Socialists dropped from 15% to 14% among eligible voters and from 30% to 26% among decided party voters. Jobbik has 9% and 18% respectively, LMP has 3% and 6% and the Democratic Coalition 1% and 2%.

Some 250 people working for state-owned media outlets will be dismissed in the first week of December, Népszabadság reports. More than 30 will be dismissed from the news agency MTI, 80 from Magyar Rádió and nearly 140 from MTV and Duna TV. State media manager MTVA announced in late October that it was preparing to dismiss 250-260 staff.

Parliament passed legislation Monday evening stipulating that no company, organisation, media product, public institution or public space may be named after anyone who played a leading part in laying the foundations, building or sustaining totalitarian political regimes in the 20th century.
