Hungary has tightened laws and launched programmes over the past years to combat cancer, State Secretary for Health Gábor Zombor said on Wednesday, World Cancer Day. Data by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) show that 27% of deaths were caused by cancer in 2013. For that year, KSH reported 126,800 deaths in Hungary.

The number of people and days spent on sick leave both significantly dropped between 2005 and 2013 according to a report by the Central Statistical Office (KSH). The average number of paid time of f for an illness fell from 30 in 2005 to 24 in 2013, KSH said.

Debrecen University, where more than 300 students are expected to arrive soon from Africa, has sent them questionnaires in cooperation with health authorities and a statement to be signed, according to the paper.
