It has been exactly 130 years since the Budapest Opera opened its gates on 27 September, 1884. The Hungarian State Opera commemorates the anniversary of the opening with crowds in period costumes, an extraordinary gala concert, the premier of a film, and the publication of a historical book.

To celebrate its jubilee, the Eva Duda Dance Company opens this year’s season with a five-day-long festival showing recent years’ best pieces on five consecutive nights. The title of the exhibition (Was auch der Fall ist) comes from the second half of the first proposition in Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus,, broadening its meaning towards what exists beyond what exists, and also referring to the artist’s preceding exhibition of the same name.

A three-month series of cultural events dubbed DACS - Holland, kingdom! was launched by the Dutch ambassador to Hungary Gajus Scheltema. “Our aim is to show Holland in Hungary from a new perspective, as reflected by these varied cultural events,” the ambassador told a press conference.

The Bridging Europe arts festival will focus on German culture during its four-day programme starting on Sept. 10 this year. The festival organised for the second time by the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Festival Orchestra seeks to find connections between Hungarian culture and the cultures of other countries through music. Last year the Czech Republic was in focus.
