Budapest will host the 5th congress of the European Association of Geographical Societies (EUGEO) between August 31 and September 2, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences said. Fully 602 delegates from 45 countries will gather to discuss climate change, demography, migration and urban development issues that will affect the continent’s future. EUGEO held its first congress in 2007 in Amsterdam.

Retired Archbishop of Esztergom László Paskai, former head of Hungary’s Catholic Church, died aged 89. Hungary has lost a priest who loved his church and country, the Christian Democrats said, expressing deep condolences over Paskai’s death in a statement.
