Summer of 2012, the Hungarian House of Photography organized the first edition of its exhibition series titled Rarely seen photographs. The exhibited photos were selected from the collection of the Hungarian Museum of Photography of Kecskemet. With this initiative, we intended to showcase items from Hungarian photographic collections that, unfortunately, rarely reach the public.

Hungarian governments in the last twenty years combined have not done as much for preventing and reducing corruption and for achieving accountability as the government currently in office has in the past two years. We acknowledge with regret that this fact has been omitted from the organisation’s report, and we are therefore unable to embrace or agree with most of its findings.

It is truly amazing how much power and influence a nonexistent party can assert on its coalition partner. I’m talking about the Christian Democratic People’s Party or KDNP (Kereszténydemokrata Néppárt). This non-party, which is not even considered to be a full-fledged coalition party by Fidesz, has enormous influence, for example, on education.

Janos Ader was born in Csorna, Gyor county on May 9, 1959. He completed Revai Miklos Grammar School in Gyor in 1977, and obtained a law degree at ELTE faculty of law in 1983. For a year he worked as a law clerk on a city council and from 1986 to 1990 he worked at the Sociology Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Yesterday the Hungarian parliament elected János Áder, 52, to be the 5th president of the Republic since the change of political system in 1989/90. All Fidesz and Christian Democrat MPs signed the form to nominate Fidesz MEP János Áder to the post of head of state, which was officially submitted yesterday. The lone exception was Regional Development Minister Sándor Fazekas, who is abroad. Other nominations are possible by 8 a.m. Friday, but none are expected. Parliament will elect the new president at 10 a.m. on May 2.
