Hungarian Tax Officials To Check Airbnb

The tax authority NAV announced that it will check whether landlords are paying taxes on accommodation offered via airbnb and other popular holiday rental sites. Tax officials will rent rooms and apartments as part of the investigation. The number of places available for rent in Budapest via airbnb has shot up from 1,500 last December to 7,000 today.

Hungarian motorists with electric or hybrid vehicles may now apply for new green number plates, business daily Világgazdaság said. The National Development Ministry told the paper that motorists who replace their old number plates with the green plates would have to pay 8,500 forints (EUR 27).

Art collector Imre Pákh will go to court if the government follows through on its promise to forbid him from taking the painting Golgotha by 19th-century artist Mihály Munkácsy out of the country, lawyer Gábor Holló told Népszabadság on Thursday. Pákh is willing to sell the work for $9 million, but the government is offering to pay only $6 million.

The commission is officially for reworking the feasibility study written in 2002 with a view to hosting the 2012 Olympics, therefore there was no bidding process for the work.

Claims by policy holders on damages resulting from a storm that swept through Hungary last Saturday could come close to 733 million forints (EUR 2.4m), insurance companies told MTI. Generali put the claim on the storm damages at 300 million forints based on preliminary estimates. Allianz faces claims of 130 million, Aegon could pay 103 million and Groupama expects to pay up to 200 million forints.

There refugees can choose between sleeping side by side on cots indoors or sleeping in tents where temperatures reach 110 degrees. Others opt to sleep in a small wood nearby. There are not enough toilets. Garbage is everywhere.
