Hungary’s national police chief firmly rejected claims of ethnic profiling, in a letter released on the police homepage. The statues of the memorial to the victims of German occupation were lifted into place on Szabadság tér shortly after midnight on Saturday night amidst a heavy police presence. Index reported that about 100 police officers closed off Szabadság tér as the statues of an eagle and the Archangel Gabriel were erected.
