Hungary has reached another new milestone. As of Sunday, only four radio stations will broadcast nationally in Hungary, all of them state-run. Not since 1991 has radio been so one-sided, reports kreativ.hu.

Around fifty Turkish and Kurdish students studying in Hungary gathered at Deák Square in downtown Budapest on Sunday to protest the Turkish government’s detention of journalists and opposition MPs. Sercan Cinar, one of the organisers of the protest, demanded the immediate release of those who had been arrested as part of “antidemocratic measures” by the Turkish government.

Sláger Rádio Zrt. announced in a press conference this afternoon that they have purchased ownership of Class FM, one of the country’s largest radio stations, by buying the station’s owner, Advenio Zrt. The move apparently takes the station out of the hands of ownership that has become less government friendly.
