No decision has been made on whether to introduce a congestion charge in Budapest, the city’s mayor said at a session of the municipal assembly. István Tarlós said no decision had been made concerning either the extent of the zone or the fee. A Buddha statue found to contain the 900-year-old mummified remains of a monk has been withdrawn by its owner from an exhibit in the Hungarian National History Museum, the museum’s spokeswoman said. Mónika Kiss-Stefán confirmed that the owner had the statue removed, without explanation, on Friday.

The cabinet has decided to extend the ban on Sunday retail activity, to take effect on 15 March, to world heritage sites, government spokesman András Giró-Szász has said. In addition to large areas in central Budapest, the decision will affect the towns of Sátoraljaújhely, Szerencs, Sárospatak and Tokaj in the Tokaj historical wine region in northeastern Hungary.
