József Rippl-Rónai had at least as great an impact on modern Hungarian art as Aristide Maillol had on modern European sculpture. The friendship between these two influential artists, and the artistic documents of their relationship, are the focus of an exhibition opened at the Hungarian National Gallery in December 2014.

Hungarian liberal weekly news magazine 168 óra asked eight members of Hungary’s liberal establishment their reaction to the Fidesz-KDNP landslide victory in Sunday’s local and county elections. The title of the exhibition (Was auch der Fall ist) comes from the second half of the first proposition in Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus,, broadening its meaning towards what exists beyond what exists, and also referring to the artist’s preceding exhibition of the same name.

Working for decades for the lord of the palace, Prince Miklós Esterházy, composer Joseph Haydn once lived in this 18th-century Baroque building. There is a furnished memorial room here in his honour.

The new production of the Eifman Ballet pays tribute to one of the world’s greatest sculptors, Auguste Rodin, and his assistant, lover and muse, Camille Claudel-a relationship of passion and drama. The end of their fifteen-year-long romance was to be the beginning of Camille’s destruction; she suffered a mental breakdown and died forgotten in a mental institution thirty years later, in 1943.

A memorial dedicated to Bulgarian market gardeners was inaugurated in Budapest on Monday. In the late 19th and early 20th century, tens of thousands of Bulgarian market gardeners appeared in Hungary to introduce new vegetables and revolutionise gardening with the application of new irrigation technologies. They played a key role in Hungarian vegetable growing for over a century.
