HungarianFest, Opera, Now On Until 10 June

At the end of the Hungarian Season, over the course of four weeks, between 10 May and 10 June, 2017, two centuries of Hungarian opera will be presented in a grand series that includes works by composers as early as József Ruzitska, as recent as Judit Varga and Levente Gyöngyösi, and all major Hungarian opera composers in between, as well as several indispensable choreographic works.

Women laughing as they leapt over puddles, goalkeepers diving for the ball, dancers, divers, wrestlers, children running into the surf, Fred Astaire clicking his heels in mid air.

The snow had melted away, the sun was shining, Irish eyes were smiling, and Hungarian eyes and everyone else’s eyes were smiling together. A small piece of the emerald Isle had gathered to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day: colourful, warm and charming, which, in my opinion, sums up the nation.
