Literary Dinner With Thomas Fink, Bródy Studios Budapest, 24 June
Join us to hear Thomas Fink talk about his two books (‘The Man’s Book’ and ‘The 85 ways to Tie a Tie’) and explore the deeper question of whether and how physicists are creative.

Fink explains: “Many people believe that the artistic mind and the scientific mind are at odds, a view famously explored by C P Snow in The Two Cultures. As a theoretical physicist, I will argue that calculation and creativity are not antagonistic but highly intertwined.

In three parts -- about neckties, wallpaper and dancing -- I will explore the inner workings of a physicist's mind and its scopes and limits. I will also touch on how my desire to systematise the world around me led me to write my two popular books: The 85 Ways to Tie a Tie and The Man's Book. “

Thomas Fink is an Anglo-American physicist and author who studied at Caltech where he won the annual Fisher Prize for top physicist and Green prize for best research. He then moved to England for his PhD at St John's College, Cambridge, where he was supervised by Robin Ball at the Cavendish Laboratory.

He was a Junior Fellow at Caius College, Cambridge and completed a postdoc at École Normale Supérieure with Bernard Derrida. He founded and currently runs the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences (LIMS), a non-profit institute for physics and mathematics research. Located in Mayfair, London, LIMS is like a university research department but with no teaching or administrative duties. It covers its own costs through research grants and donations.

Described as “Budapest’s epicentre of cool” (The Guardian newspaper) Brody Studios’ literary dinners promise a unique experience for readers and diners alike; bespoke menus and the company of fellow bibliophiles together with literary superstars.
