Four Hungarian regions are among the European Union’s twenty poorest, according to a Eurostat report. Magyar Nemzet and Világgazdaság cited the survey on Monday, noting that northern Hungary, the northern and southern parts of the Great Plains and the south-west region lagged behind severely, in spite of Hungary’s drawing down the biggest amount of EU funds from among the former East Bloc.

Hungarians who use Facebook the most are women, people with low levels of education and those under 30 years of age, according to the survey.

In Hungary only 6.3% of secondary school students aged between 11 and 14 learned two or more foreign languages, similar to Austria where their proportion was 9.5%, the survey conducted in 2014 showed.
