'Marathon Tourism' Brings Over 50,000 Foreign Visitors to Budapest

This year's Telekom Vivicitta, Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon and SPAR Budapest Marathon Festival attracted over 50,000 foreign visitors to the capital, a new record, the Budapest Sport Office (BSI) said on Wednesday.
Those visitors stayed more than 100,000 guest nights and spent close to HUF 4bn, BSI said.
Almost 19,000 foreigners, from 125 countries, registered for the three races. A survey conducted of the runners show they arrived with 1.8 travel companions, on average.
Including locals, over 93,000 people ran in the three big races in 2025.
