Frederick Sweet was born in New York City of Hungarian parents (both from Budapest) who had immigrated to the United States before World War II. Since Hungarian was spoken at home, Sweet acquired it as a second language.

Classes and groups present activities representing various countries around the globe. They are encouraged to make a presentation by reciting a poem, by dressing up in their native costumes or performing a short play.

My husbands' family left Hungary in 1946 after the expropriation of their stately home and settled in Paris where we met at university in 1965, studying political science. I am myself of German origin and was also brought up in Paris. We married, I learned Hungarian.
