Last Thursday, the European Commission’s Economic and Financial Affairs Directorate General released the December 2013 data for the EU’s Economic Sentiment Indicator. The Economic Sentiment Indicator, or ESI, is “a composite indicator made up of five sectoral confidence indicators” reflecting the level of confidence and optimism in each sector of the economy.

More than 30 multinational food companies are testing a new soy product based on a Hungarian patent, Jenő Szilbereky, the managing director of the developer Fitotex, told MTI. The companies interested in the product include Germany’s Worlec, Lytos of the Netherlands, Italy’s Faravelli and the UK’s FoodDoctor.

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, announced that it carried 13.5 million passengers in 2013, representing growth of 12% year on year, with an average load factor of 86%. The Wizz Air fleet currently consists of 45 Airbus A320 aircraft which will grow to 53 in 2014 with the deliveries of brand new airplanes from Airbus.
