The National Assembly voted Monday to fast-track a vote on the government’s controversial bill on higher education, also known as Lex CEU. In a 115-49 vote, the assembly approved a request for an emergency parliamentary procedure, and will vote on the bill before noon on Tuesday. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (pictured above) voted in favor of the expedited procedure.

Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén (Christian Democratic People’s Party, KDNP) gave a rare interview to pro-government daily Magyar Idők Thursday, where he said that beginning in the autumn, the Fidesz-KDNP 2018 election campaign would “become ecstatic.” Semjén promised that the stakes of the election for the opposition parties would be “their mere survival.”
