The Albanian Embassy and Hungarian dignitaries unveiled a statue of Mother Teresa in Budapest on Friday to mark Day of International Charity. “Mother Teresa lived an exemplary life, she faced up the horror of poverty and hopelessness and was dedicated to serving the needy,” Zoltán Pokorni, the mayor of District 12 where the statue was erected, told the ceremony.

The statues of the memorial to the victims of German occupation were lifted into place on Szabadság tér shortly after midnight on Saturday night amidst a heavy police presence. Index reported that about 100 police officers closed off Szabadság tér as the statues of an eagle and the Archangel Gabriel were erected.
