- 13 Nov 2015 10:00 AM
The government is planning to set up 1,500 WiFi access points in the country, providing free access to the internet at an estimated cost of Ft 1 billion, Népszabadság has learned. Tamás Deutsch, the prime ministerial commissioner for digital development, is expected to announce the plans at a conference today, and to provide details.
The government will install the service at town centres or near the so-called e-Hungary community internet and digital infrastructure points.
In a recent interview, Deutsch unveiled plans for a potential cut in the VAT rate on internet services from 27% to 18%.
The government will also make available a basic internet package at preferential rates to underprivileged Hungarians.
