The Fairy Queen - Opera Noir At The Hungarian State Opera

Fans of early music can hardly wait for the end of the Opera’s season each year. Little wonder, either, for true to our tradition of the last three years, we are again closing it out with a Baroque opera. The final premiere in the Shakespeare Season of the Hungarian State Opera is Henry Purcell’s semi-opera, The Fairy Queen turned into opera noir by director András Almási-Tóth.

According to Hungarian investigative journalism portal Átlátszó.hu, the 2017 FINA World Championships to be hosted in Budapest in 2017 will cost Hungarian taxpayers at least HUF 90 billion (USD 323 million), of which HUF 52 billion (USD 192 million) is to be spent this year alone.

Raiffeisen bank chief analyst Zoltán Török said the upgrade confirms efforts to stabilise the economy over the past 4-5 years. He said a fiscal loosening this year and next was “not to serious” and that the effect would be countered, in part, by policy measures boosting demand and contributing to economic growth.

The Socialist Party has stopped collecting supporting signatures for a referendum on scrapping the already-repealed law on Sunday shopping restrictions, lawmaker Zoltán Gőgös told the daily Magyar Idők. The signature drive was abandoned two to three weeks ago, Gőgös said.

To mark the start of the Shakespeare season, the Hungarian State Opera will host Shakespeare400+ festival in honour the esteemed playwright. This year, 17 adaptations will be presented in four different venues (the Opera House, Erkel Theatre, Music Academy and Müpa), including popular plays like Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
