Lully: Armide, National Concert Hall Budapest, 2 March
Following his acclaimed recordings of Rameau and his contemporaries, the celebrated György Vashegyi is set to breathe new life into Jean-Baptiste Lully’s final lyric tragedy, Armide.

Originally premiered in 1686 for the court of Louis XIV, Armide remained a cornerstone of the Paris Opera for nearly a century. This particular performance offers a rare treat for Baroque enthusiasts: Vashegyi will lead the 1745-46 revision by François Rebel and François Francœur—a version specifically tailored for the lavish royal festivities at Versailles.

While the core of Lully’s masterpiece remains, this mid-18th-century adaptation introduces more modern musical sequences and dramatic choreography, reflecting the evolving tastes of the French court.

The production features a stellar international cast, headlined by the brilliant mezzo-soprano Marie-Andrée Bouchard-Lesieur and tenor Antonin Rondepierre. Don’t miss this chance to experience a true gem of the French Baroque, restored to its full "Sun King" glory right here in Budapest.
