U. S. Ambassador Kounalakis Observes Hungarians Going to the Polls
"On April 11, Ambassador Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis and her husband Markos Kounalakis visited several polling places in Budapest to observe the first round of Hungary’s general elections.

The Ambassador and her husband – who was also present in Hungary as an accredited international observer during the historic 1990 elections – noted that this year’s general elections, Hungary’s sixth since the regime change, were once again free and fair, and a clear demonstration of the country’s solid democratic institutions at work.

Later in the evening, the Ambassador and Mr. Kounalakis joined other dignitaries to watch as preliminary results were reported, and they visited the headquarters of all democratic parties that had made it into Parliament, FIDESZ, MSZP and LMP.
