Budapest Mayoral Candidates Must Try Harder
"Candidates for mayor of Budapest will need to collect over 28,000 nominations, the Budapest Election Office stated on Monday. The threshold has been raised since the last elections, from 0.5% of eligible voters to 2%.

Eligible voters should receive notices for the October 3 local elections and three nomination slips by Thursday.

Candidates can register with the Budapest Election Commission by September 3. So far eight parties and organisations have announced their candidates.

They are Csaba Horváth of the Socialists, Benedek Jávor of LMP, István Makai of the Roma Civic Group and Budapest Gypsy Authority, Andor Schmuck of the Social Democratic Party, Gábor Staudt of Jobbik, István Tarlós of Fidesz, Klára Ungár of the Free People for Hungary – Unity 2010, and Zsolt Victora of the satirical Two-Tailed Dog Party."
