Former Esztergom Mayor Starts Packing
"Former mayor of Esztergom Tamás Meggyes on Wednesday began to clear out his office, telling Népszabadság that “in the present situation I decided not to lay claim to it, as I do not want to be a burden on the town, even with one office”.

The Fidesz politician had insisted on staying in the office despite losing the election to independent Éva Tétényi. The Fidesz-dominated local council had announced its intention to let Meggyes use the mayor’s office for his work as an MP.

Fidesz executive deputy chairman Lajos Kósa told MTV on Tuesday that Fidesz leaders planned to talk to Meggyes.

The party executive is of the opinion that Esztergom residents have turned their back on Meggyes, not on Fidesz, Magyar Hírlap reports. The party finds it unacceptable for Meggyes to use a local-government car and office. He will hold a press briefing today."
