Hungary's PM Orbán Rejects Rumours Of Bank Deposit Grab
"Bank deposits are protected and safe, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared on Friday in reaction to reports that the government planned to seize individuals’ savings. Government spokesman András Giró-Szász said there will be an investigation into who spread rumours about the nationalisation of bank deposits.

Responding to reports on the bank deposits of individuals, Orbán said the cabinet views them as private contracts in which the state has no business.

He dismissed speculation about the deposits as rumour-mongering which is a punishable crime.

The Socialist Party called for a special session of Parliament for January 16 with the aim of passing a law to protect bank deposits.

Socialist MP Sándor Burány said the government is a danger to the Hungarian financial system which is safe thanks to the finances of banks and the work of the MNB."
