Hungarian Central Bank Governor Simor Offers To Work For Ft 1
"Central bank governor András Simor has offered to work for a symbolic Ft 1 a month until the end of his term in March 2013 on condition the government remove the ceiling on the MNB governor’s salary.

In a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Friday, Simor said he hopes to help the government with his offer, as abolition of the Ft 2 million per month ceiling is one of the conditions for a credit agreement with the IMF and the EU.

Simor said he had offered talks earlier on the issue, but he had received no answer.

Simor’s offer is retroactive to September 2010, when the law restricting his salary was imposed. He said he would donate his salary since that date to support economics students from low-income families.

Orbán’s spokesman Péter Szijjártó said only that Orbán will respond to Simor’s letter."
