Hungary's LMP To Start Referendum Drive
- 2 Mar 2012 8:02 AM
The party wants a national vote on the government’s decisions to lower the minimum age for compulsory school attendance from 18 to 16, to reduce the period of eligibility for unemployment benefit, to reduce the maximum duration of probation and on the extent of paid holidays for employees.
Leading LMP officials told a Thursday press briefing that they will launch a website called nepszavazas2012.hu and hope to collect 50,000-60,000 signatures on the social networking site Facebook.
The referendum drive will have to be approved by this weekend’s LMP congress.
LMP has only one month, until April 2, to collect the required 200,000 signatures."
