Hungarian Town Gives School To Faith Group
Parents expressed outrage yesterday as the local council of the east Hungarian town of Hajdúsámson agreed to hand over the running of its only school to the charismatic church Hít Gyűlekezete. The finances of the town of 13,000 make it impossible to keep the primary school and related nursery.

The local Fidesz chapter campaigned for direct state management against the religious group, regarded by many as a sect.

However, Hajdúsámson’s independent mayor Gábor Hamza saw more scope for intervention by the town if the school is run by a church.
