Flavors, Emotions, Magic In The Triumph Of Light At Hilton Budapest
For centuries, people of all cultures have celebrated the magical wonders of the Midsummer night. The fires that burn brightly in the villages and fields have migrated to the cities and festivals as well. Let us celebrate the importance of the longest day of the year, the solstice, and with it, love, life and the triumph of light over darkness, Saint John the Baptist’s birth. There are many varieties of rituals that one could participate in to help resist and drive away evil and in turn attract abundance and happiness into our lives.

Those who catch a butterfly on the day of midsummer can count on being rewarded with great fortune during the remainder of the year. A white butterfly brings luck, a yellow one brings money and the multi-colored kinds bring great exuberant love. We let the dark colored ones get away.

The herds collected at the break of this day have a much greater effect on us. The fire-baked fruits in the evening ease our pain. The promise of the beauty of an unborn child is achieved by consuming cherries and apples by the roaring flames of the bonfire.

City dwellers can bask in the urbanized popular rituals if they visit the Dominican Court, the Castle District’s sacred site, on the 23rd of June. After the sun has set, the soft graying of twilight merges with the existing view of the Parliament, Danube, Fisherman’s Bastion and the ruins of the 13-15th century Dominican Church to create a unique scene that is second to none. The Atlantisz fire-jugglers will substitute for the raging bonfire. Agnes Aved-Brezanszky and her jazz orchestra will substitute for the villagers’ voices. The herbs, fruits and animal sacrifices will be represented in all their abundant glory by the Budapest Hilton Chef.

Fine gourmet fish, heavenly fowl, tender veal and cuts of meat of suckling pigs all dance in competition with purely vegetarian dishes, salads and vegetables. Without warning the tempting desserts will exert their seductive powers. After all, this is the night that anything can and will happen, including its opposite. Joe Cocker would sing Midsummer in the City, Quincy Jones would play Puck as a joke in the spirit of the Midsummer’s Night Dream. But even without them, everyone who visits the Castle District and, of course, this special place and celebrates with us will be rewarded with a highly memorable and pleasant experience.
