Fewer Hungarian Students To Have State Support
The cabinet on Wednesday debated a report to reduce the number of post-secondary students eligible for state financial aid to 36,000, nearly 8,000 fewer than this year. State aid for students of law and economics could cease altogether, as indicated by earlier statements.

A document obtained by news website Origo shows that the state would finance the basic educational studies of 24,780 students, as well as 2,350 graduate students, 3,660 students studying such areas as medicine, architecture, dentistry and pharmacy, along with 400 ethnic Hungarian students in other countries and 150 foreigners studying in Hungary.

A further 5,000 partial grants would be extended to handicapped students, those receiving child-care benefits, outstanding athletes and foreigners studying in Hungary.
