New vaccine in 2011/12
In the 2011-2012 flu season, a new trivalent (3-component) inactivated vaccine has been introduced.
The recommended influenza A (H1N1) and B(H3N2) strains are chosen by committees at the World Health Organization and EMA based on which strains were most common in the previous flu season. For the 2011- 2012 season, the recommended blend of vaccine is different from previous vaccines.
About the vaccines

Vaxigrip - (intramuscular)
ID Flu - (intradermal) - NEW!
ID Flu was introduced in the United States in 2011. This vaccine uses a smaller needle, and requires a smaller pathogen load to be introduced into the body in order to achieve the same effect. This type of vaccine may only be used for adults 18 or older, and it is specifically recommended for those taking anticoagulant medication.
In certain cases, the vaccination must be repeated after 4 weeks for children. Our colleague will inform you if this is the case for your child.
