Electric Fault Closes Budapest Airport
The Liszt Ferenc International Airport had to close on Friday noon as the control tower suffered a blackout caused by water on a transformer. Arriving aircraft were redirected to Vienna or Bratislava, from where coaches picked up passengers. Many departures were cancelled.

A total of 80 flights and 8,500 passengers were affected before air traffic resumed as normal on Saturday morning.

Consumers association Feosz asked operator Budapest Airport to take responsibility for damages.

The heating system, a pipeline of which was broken causing the damage, was tested a few weeks ago, said airport spokesman Mihály Hardy.
