Budapest Named 'Best Value For A City Break'
- 28 Mar 2013 7:00 AM
This list is dominated by Eastern Europe’s cultural capitals, with Vilnius named as the Runner-up – it was tipped for success in the latest Post Office Holiday Money Report, and has the lowest tourist prices when hotel costs are discounted.
Lisbon is best value in the eurozone – under half the price of Amsterdam or Rome. Dubrovnik offers the lowest-priced three-star accommodation and Prague is cheapest for meals and drinks for the second year running.
Apparently this ranking for Budapest is worth at least GBP 70,000 in advertisement value as the list was published in all the major British dailies, regional newspapers, and online news portals.
Notes:
* Data relates to exchange rates on 18 March 2013.
* Prices supplied by National and Regional Tourist Offices of participating countries, except for Edinburgh, London and Paris (researched online).
* Two-night accommodation prices sourced from Hotels.com (1 March 2013) based on two adults travelling 26-28 April, sharing a double/twin room in a three-star hotel/guesthouse within one mile of the city centre.
