Budapest Transport Centre Opts For Electronic Ticket System
The Budapest transport centre BKK decided to base the future ticket system in the city on a radio frequency identification (RFID) system CEO Dávid Vitézy informed a conference organised by Napi Gazdaság.

Similar systems are operating in Philadelphia and Chicago, and London also intends to adopt it, he said.

He added that the BKK has signed a financing agreement with EBRD for a €54.2 million loan.

The contract with the supplier of the system can be signed this year and the whole system will be ready in 2015 or 2016, Vitézy forecast.

The public transport passes will be like bank cards, with the advantage that they can be cancelled like bank cards, he pointed out.
