US State Department Official Has Talks In Budapest
Hoyt Yee, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, held talks in Budapest on Wednesday. His meeting with Hungary’s foreign trade chief Péter Szijjártó focussed on bilateral ties, energy and EU affairs.

Szijjártó called Hungarian-US economic and trade cooperation “a true success,” noting that US businesses have created 40,000 jobs in Hungary over the past ten years. He added that the Hungarian government had concluded the largest number of strategic partnership agreements with US-based firms.

Ferenc Gyurcsány, leader of the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK), briefed him about Hungary’s political and economic situation.

The ex-premier said the democratic fiveparty alliance Unity was duly preparing for the general election with a view to replacing Viktor Orbán’s government. Gyurcsany expressed DK’s firm commitment to European and transatlantic values.
