Paks Upgrade To Reduce Electricity Fee By 13% In Hungary
- 25 Feb 2014 8:00 AM
The construction of the planned two new blocks at Hungary’s sole nuclear power plant in Paks is expected to lead to a 13% reduction in electricity fees, Development Minister Zsuzsanna Németh said on Monday. This will boost the economy and attract more investments to Hungary, she told a press conference.
The nuclear power station is operated in a safe, predictable and economical way, and the need for capacity expansion is not a question, she said.
Parties in the leftist Unity alliance criticised the planned upgrade saying that the project would not create more than just a few hundred permanent jobs, while a housing renovation programme as suggested by the Socialists would create 100,000 new jobs.
