Raising the flag of Hungary with military honours at Kossuth Square
In commemoration of the Hungarian Revolution and Independence War of 1848-1849, the flag of Hungary will be raised with military honours at the renewed Kossuth Square.
After the ceremony, a procession will head out to the Gardens of the Hungarian National Museum.

The festive program will begin with raising the flag of Hungary with military honours at the renewed Kossuth Square on 15 March, Saturday, 9:00 AM. László Kövér, Speaker of the House will deliver a speech after the march of historical flags and the military parade.
The flag will remain in heights throughout the day to indicate that an important anniversary of Hungarian history is commemorated.
The event will be attended by János Áder, President of the Republic of Hungary and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
After hoisting the flag, at 9:40 AM a procession will head out to the Hungarian National Museum, being the next scene of commemorations. The procession will be led by the Ceremonial Unit of the National Cavalry. Anyone is free to join the march at any place. The path of the procession is as follows: Kossuth Square – Martyrs’ Square – Báthory St. – Bajcsy-Zsiliszky St. – Károly Blvd. – Astoria – Múzeum Blvd.

Commemorations in the Gardens of the Hungarian National Museum
A formal speech will be delivered on spot by Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary.
A procession will head to the Buda Castle after the commemoration.

A festive program begins in the Museum Gardens at 10:30 AM with contributions by Tímea Antal, Zoltán Kátai, Ildikó Keresztes, Imre Sípos, Vajk Szente, Katalin Szvorák, László Tolcsvay, Miklós Varga, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and the Children’s Choir of the Hungarian Radio from record.
A formal speech will be delivered by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Following the commemorations a procession will head out from the Garden of the National Museum to the Buda Castle with the attendance of traditional riders. Anyone can join the procession, which will take the following route: Múzeum Blvd. – Astoria – Szabad sajtó Way – Március 15 Square – Pesti alsó rakpart – Eötvös Square – Széchenyi István Square – Chain Bridge – Clark Ádám Square – Hunyadi Square – Dísz Square.

On the occasion of the National Day, visitors are welcome in the Buda Castle to participate in traditional programs. At events taking place in several locations, children could take part in skill competitions; craftsman workshops and even prepare their own kokárdas. Everyone is welcome who is interested in the programs.

Traditional military camp, historic arcade games, gun show featuring the weapons of the Independence War, traditional fencing showcase, arts and crafts, kokárda-workshop, guided tours, photographic exhibition ‘National Memorial Sites 1848-1849’, dance education and all-day-long discount book fair.

“Time travel adventures” to know major scenes of 1848-1849, exhibition of original documents from the Revolution and Independence War (Declaration of Independence, Petőfi manuscript, farewell letter of Prince Leiningen-Westerburg etc.), storytelling for children.
House of Hungarians
11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Presentation on hussars, quiz, folk games, dance lessons, story playing, performances, craft workshops, kokárda and banner making for those interested.
Hungarian National Gallery
Guided tours on the 19th Century collection: Historical Walk at 11:00 AM and a tour on works of Gyula Benczúr at 4:00 PM.
Hadik Monument Stage

Folk music and dance teaching at 11:00 AM, 1:45 PM and 4:00 PM. Traditional dance show and teaching at noon and 2:30 PM.
