Hungary Takes Middle Path On Ukraine
Népszabadság has gained the impression in conversing with diplomats from the Visegrád Four countries that Hungary is not among the EU “hawks” calling for firm action against Russia, nor does it appear to be impeding sanctions because of the Paks nuclear agreement.

Poland and the Czech Republic support punitive measures more than Slovakia and Hungary, but the latter two are more dependent on Russian energy, one diplomat said.

Another Visegrád Four diplomat said the Paks agreement has caused some problems, and the question has arisen as to why Hungary is furthering its ties with Russia. “It is not really clear why Hungarians are making it more difficult for themselves”, he said.
