Xpat Opinion: Fidesz And LMP Satisfied; Unity, Jobbik Not In Hungary
Hungarian president Viktor Orbán was re-elected yesterday at the 2014 elections of Hungary. Although the 2/3 majority of Fidesz is still at stakes, the members of the party claim that it does not matter whether they get it or not.

The president concluded the victory in short saying “We are going on”. He also referred to the opposing parties by saying that “Hungary is not justifying the policy of hatred”. The opposing left-wing Unity (Összefogás) said that they shall think over why they failed to achieve what they had wanted. They all seemed to be disappointed and they raised the idea of considering their mistakes.

Jobbik, the radical right-wing party was also disappointed, although they have recruited many new supporters. Leader of party Gábor Vona said that they should be working much harder to win the upcoming elections in four years.

Jobbik seems to have encountered the greatest loss as a result of the debut of the new voting system. However their popularity has grown among voters the, places they acquired in the parliament has not grown significantly.

Fidesz has lost almost half a million voters. According to political scientists, those leaving the governing party might have started supporting Jobbik.

LMP was the only party, except Fidesz, who was satisfied with the result of the elections. They got into the parliament again and they concluded that their seats in the parliament show that Hungary is supportive with a “green” party nurturing environmentally friendly policies.

Though the number of possible voters has grown with the inclusion of cross-boarder Hungarians, mainly from Transylvania, there was an inevitable decline in the participation of the voters according to the statistics. Interesting to see how Hungarians decide not to live with their democratic right of being eligible to vote.
