Magyar Telekom Loses Transaction Fee Case In Hungary
Consumer protection association FEOSZ on Thursday said it won a court case against Magyar Telekom for adding a 142-forint transaction fee to the bills of clients who paid their balances in person or by postal cheque between May and November, 2012.

The second-instance court, the Budapest Tribunal, upheld the ruling made more than a year ago by the Budapest Municipal Court, accepting the arguments of the plaintiff that the fee was against the interests of the costumers, and Telekom provided no service against the fee which it introduced in May, 2012.

The second instance verdict is final, but Magyar Telekom said that it might turn to Hungary’s supreme court, the Curia, for a revision.

The company argued the transaction fee was intended as an incentive to make payments online or from remote accounts.
