More Partners Join Central Bank Cybershield Initiative in Hungary
State-owned lottery company Szerencsejatek and payment companies Visa and Mastercard have joined CyberShield, a project of the National Bank of Hungary (NBH) to raise awareness among consumers about the basics of safe digital finance, central bank deputy-governor Barnabas Virag said.

A total of thirteen partners have joined the initiative, Virag said. The new partners will contribute to the NBH's crackdown on online fraud, he added.

There were 109,000 fraudulent purchases made using bank cards with a value of HUF 5.5bn in the first half of the year, he noted.

Andrea Mager, who heads Szerencsejatek, said around 1.5 million people were registered to play its games online and acknowledged the risk of falling victim to carelessness.

Bence Sarmay, Visa's head in Hungary, said the CyberShield initiative "filled a gap" and could adopt international best practices using Visa's global network.

CyberShield was established late in 2022 by the NBH, the Hungarian Banking Association, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH), the National Cyber Security Centre and the National Police Headquarters (ORFK).
