Maarten Hendriks visits Budapest as the international member of the jury of the 2014 Hungarian Design Awards. He founded Little Mountain, a leading growth spot for creative entrepreneurial talent in 2006. It served as the basis for creating Founded By All, a designer co-working project in 2013, which is broadly supported by partners from industry, education and government.
In addition to the presentation of the Dutch designer and businessman, several other programs are organised to celebrate this year’s World Industrial Design Day. The program series starts in the Museum of Applied Arts with the presentation of József Slézia’s book titled Contemporary Hungarian Design 2000–2013 starting at 5:00 pm on 26th June (in Hungarian). The next day, following the presentation of Maarten Hendriks, the Polish Red Dots – The exhibition of awarded Polish projects and products opens in the Museum of Applied Arts at 1:00 pm.
A tour introducing the 2014 edition of Budapest Design Map starts from Design Terminal at 3:00 pm (registration is obligatory - by clicking here - registrations are confirmed in the order of receiving them!).
Following that, the Lean Startup Circle Meetup starts at 6:00 pm in Design Terminal (in Hungarian). The day is closed with a Design Picnic organised in cooperation with Terminal restaurant on the roof terrace of Design Terminal starting at 7:00 pm, music by DJ Silye Dani. In addition to all that, the diploma exhibition of the typography graduates of MOME – Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest is open in Design Terminal between 26th and 29th June.
Detailed program is available from the event’s Facebook page.
Budapest Design Week 2014: Figurative Sense
Offering a wide range of programs, Budapest Design Week is organised between 3rd and 12th October this year. The main sponsor and the patron of the festival is the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office, its leading professional partners are the Hungarian Design Council and Design Terminal, and it is organised by HIPAVILON Hungarian Intellectual Property Agency.
The slogan of Budapest Design Week 2014 is FIGURATIVE SENSE. Our everyday lives are more and more pervaded by technology and the internet, by the use of smart devices. This trend has a significant effect on design as well. The flagship programs of the festival aim at presenting the common grounds, the possibilities, the most recent results and current issues of design and technology through case studies, examples, presentations and thought-provoking discussions.
In 2014 Budapest Design Week welcomes the Netherlands as it’s Guest of Honour country. The most prestigeous awards of the design profession (Hungarian Design Awards, Design Management Award) are also presented in the framework of the festival. A novelty this year is that the programs of the acclaimed Central European Fashion Days, among them the award ceremony and fashion show of the GOMBOLD ÚJRA! competition, one of the most widely recognised events of Central European fashion designers, will take place on the openning weekend of Budapest Design Week.
