Easter Festival at Skanzen in Szentendre
On Easter Sunday and Monday, the Szentendre Open-Air Ethnographic Museum will bring to life the charm of traditional village Easter celebrations with sprinkling customs, Easter-themed craft workshops, and joyful spring festivities.

According to the museum's announcement, the various homesteads will showcase customs rooted in Christian traditions as well as springtime folk rituals. In addition to storytelling, concerts, and craft activities, visitors can look forward to performances by the renowned Kaláka Ensemble, Ági Szalóki and her band, among others.

The museum also reminds visitors that the period leading up to Easter - besides its religious significance—is a time for welcoming spring and spiritual renewal.

During Holy Week, families traditionally cleaned their homes and prepared their households to participate in church ceremonies beginning on Maundy Thursday.

At the Skanzen, the festive spirit of Easter sprinkling and springtime merrymaking will be brought to life by the dancers of the Lajta Folk Dance Ensemble from Mosonmagyaróvár.

The stage programs will feature Easter tales and storytelling by Szende Csernik and László Gulyás.

On Easter Sunday, performances will include the Tímár Sára Band, Szilvia Bognár and Klára Csernók’s Band, as well as the BaHorka Ensemble and the Berka Band. Visitors can also enjoy a lively craft fair and stilt-walking performances.

At the heart of the craft activities will be the traditional decorated Easter egg. Visitors can try their hand at egg waxing, leaf-pattern dyeing, and admire the intricate beauty of forged (horseshoe-decorated) eggs.

Traditional egg decorating motifs from the Gyergyó region, Transcarpathia, Bulgaria, and the Hutsuls will be showcased.

Guests can also make woolly lambs, chicks, and festive Easter decorations. Children and families will enjoy the Easter Secret Trail, a springtime play garden, a stamp-collecting game, and a fragrant water demonstration.

On Easter Sunday, a Catholic service will be held in the Óbudavár Roman Catholic Church, and on Monday, a Reformed service will take place in the Mánd Church. Those interested can also join a guided tour of the museum’s historical churches.

During the spring break, from April 17 to 27, the museum will host a special spring-themed week. Beyond Easter preparations, it will also explore traditions and customs observed after Easter.
