Merkel Unlikely To Air Criticism – Hungarian Analyst
The visit by Angela Merkel is no doubt one of the most important diplomatic events of the year, political scientist Gábor Török told Napi Gazdaság at the weekend.

He said it would be a big surprise if Merkel openly criticised Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as this would be a very rare step for Merkel at EU level.

Merkel has a thousand ways to exert pressure on the Hungarian government, Török said, noting that Germany is the most important country for Hungary in foreign policy and external economic strategy.

In addition, Merkel has opportunities to share any possible criticisms at various forums with Orbán.

Dismissing the suggestion that Orbán might become a mediator between Germany and Russia, Török said Merkel has a good command of Russian, and does not need a outside mediator in relations with Moscow.
