Zero Tolerane Policy Brings Thousands Of Israeli Students To Hungary
Thanks partly to the policy of zero tolerance announced by the government against anti-Semitism there are now several thousand young Israelis studying in Hungary, a senior government official said in Debrecen.

Csaba Latorcai, cabinet deputy state secretary in charge of priority social affairs, held a press conference about the soon-to-be-completed refurbishment of a local synagogue in Pásti Street, in the in east Hungarian city, under a project co-funded by the EU and the Hungarian government.

Latorcai called cooperation between the Debrecen municipality and the local Jewish community “exemplary” in the 500 million forint (EUR 1.6m) project aimed at preserving historic Jewish cultural sites in the city and the region.

He noted the complete refurbishment of another synagogue in Debrecen’s Kápolnás Street under a similar cooperation agreement co-funded by the EU.

Latorcai called the preservation of Jewish cultural heritage “our common responsibility” as something that is the cultural heritage of the Hungarian nation.

He noted that the refurbishment of another 15 synagogues would start this year in the country.
