Sauska’s very own Stefanie Sauska (pictured below) was on hand to introduce the winery started by her father, Christian Sauska, back in the late 1990’s. Now with two vineyards located in Tokaj and Villany, as well as a slew of awards (two gold, two silver, and one bronze but who’s counting) from the 2014 Decanter World Wine Awards under its belt, Sauska is admirably placed amidst the burgeoning business of Hungarian wine.
Georgina Garai lead us on our journey through various flavors, bodies and colors, starting out with a simple sparkling rosé, allowing a sampling of whites including a lovely Yellow Muscat and ending with two reds, including an impressive Cabernet blend.
Prizes were drawn, à la biz card bowl, and lucky winners including Valentin Sova, Kiss Andrea, and Alan Rees, all went home with bottles of Sauska and more. After the official tasting, guests continued to socialize with The Longitude Bar’s live 3 member band playing and singing great tunes.
A tour of Sauska winery itself is in the works for the near future; so stay tuned.Plus , of course, the Xpat Wine Club will be back next month to exposé another winery and allow you an evening of fine tastes, and fun.
Special appreciation goes to Paul Slocombe, AISB director, and his wife Carol, Yvonne Bergkessel a senior director at OBI, and the lovely ladies at the Britannica School, for all joining many familiar faces from the original Xpat Wine Club series.
Congratulations to XpatLoop.com’s Nora Szegedi, Melinda Székesvári, and Stephen Linfitt for hosting a successful event, featuring the wonderful Stefanie Sauska and Georgina Garai.
